Sleeping Bag (mandatory): Sleeping bags should be rated to approximately 0F but bags rated to 20F should be fine. Remember, this is the only piece of equipment we will transport for you so the carrying size is not a factor. We suggest approximately 12,000 calories (6 lbs). Headlamp (mandatory): There are a variety of headlamps that will work. While some people like to use flashlights while running, we suggest a headlamp for around camp. Compass (mandatory): There is no size requirement for a compass…as long as it points north. Some compasses have a mirror which will fill the mirror requirement. Knife (mandatory): Any knife with a folding blade. You may find a small multi-tool would be helpful. Whistle (mandatory): Any whistle will work, backpacks with a whistle built in to the clip is acceptable. Insulating layers (mandatory): mid to heavy weight layers are strongly suggested, some may want to bring a light down jacket. Hat/gloves: fleece hat and gloves are strongly recommended Emergency strobe (mandatory): must rated to be visible up to two miles away, flashing LEDs are not acceptable Light weight running shirt/shorts (mandatory): Days will get very warm and you will need something to run/hike in. Flip flops: You will want to get out of your shoes after the stage and this is the lightest cheapest way to go. Sun screen/lip balm: altitude, sun and the dry Colorado air will make these items very important. Drinking/eating utensils: We will provide hot water in the morning and at night so you will need spoon, fork, insulated mug and a bowl to hold hot food. Foot care supplies: needles, mole skin, tape and alcohol are all highly recommended MP3 player: you may want to carry extra batteries, there will be no way to charge a battery Book: tear out pages to make it easier to transport Camera Fluid /electrolyte replacement: e-caps are recommended and the easiest way to carry enough electrolytes for the entire race Tissues Aspirin/ibuprofen Zip-lock plastic bags Toothpaste/toothbrush Foam pad: you will need to carry your sleeping pad so an inflatable pads are recommended Contact accessories Other drink mixes: coffee, tea etc
